WE ARE KAIROS
Through choose-your-own-ending simulation gaming Kairos seeks to address the intangible barriers to economic and social mobility embedded in education. Kairos addresses these issues by creating immersive VR experiences that are complemented with classroom curriculum to help students develop the navigational capital needed to thrive in the academy and beyond.
First Generation Support“While the transition into higher education involves complex issues for many students, first-generation college students have greater challenges in doing so compared to traditional students” (Terenzini, et al., 1993). |
Striving for COllege GraduationCollege graduation rates amongst students from the lowest quartile in the sample, low-SES backgrounds, are 14% compared to 60% of students from high-SES backgrounds, the top quartile of the sample. The lower graduation rates of low-SES students cannot be fully explained by lack of academic preparation.. |
HOLISTIC WELLNESS“First-generation students may go through severe crises in navigating the cultural, social, and academic separation from their old selves, putting those students at a higher risk of academic failure” (Terenzini, et al., 1993, Engle, 2007) |
OUR GOALAddressing real life problems of college persistence in virtual reality |
